Our Pets of the Month...

Scooter March 2010

Scooter is an 8 year old Chinese Crested.  What he lacks in fur he makes up for in personality!  We love the way he spins around when we take him outside.  He spins so much that we have to stop to unwind the leash.  He is such a happy little dog!  We asked Scooter the following questions:

What is your favorite pastime?

I like to run with my toy squirrel and flip it up in the air.

What do you do that is really cute or funny?

I sit with one paw up in the air at times.  I also go around in circles when I am excited.

What does your family love most about you?

I make them happy, entertain them and protect them.

Honey February 2010

Honey is a 15 year old domestic long hair kitty who we just love!  She has a fighting spirit that has truly endeared her to all of us here at FRAH.  We asked Honey the following questions:

What is your favorite pastime?

I love talking about my favorites! Some of them are:

Sun tanning

Sitting pretty & smiling

Sitting on top of heat register in living room and warming my bum

Napping on Mom’s lap

Scratching on the post really tall

Purring really loud (sometimes I give myself the hiccups!)

What do you do that is really cute or funny?

Every once & a while I surprise Mom & Dad and wake up and parade around the living room and ask for some “play time”. Sometimes I hide behind the couch and ambush Kali, my sister! After about 5 or 10 minutes of that, I can really get in a good nap.

What does your family love most about you?

They love that I am just a really sweet girl, and I love to be with my Mom & Dad as much as I can. Sometimes when Mom’s busy in the kitchen, I sneak up behind her and meow loudly, and then she knows to come sit on the couch so I have a warm place to sleep. (Mom’s really good about taking breaks with me!

Bailey - January 2010

Bailey is an almost 16 year old Labrador mix who definitely likes to show us who's boss!  She's a tough cookie who's been through a lot but hasn't let anything get her down.  We love Bailey and we think that she might secretly like us too though she tries very hard to hide it!  We asked Bailey the following questions:

What is your favorite pastime?

The best thing in the world is going up north to my camper and swimming wherever there is water. I just love it up there.

What do you do that is really cute and funny?

Most people are impressed that I can find and open my own presents, and I don't even eat the paper. Oh, did I mention that I love Christmas and my birthday.

One thing that humans find really cute about me is that, I have to have a pillow and blanket before I lay me down to sleep. I love to cuddle up. I have more furniture in my mom and dad's house than they do.

What does your family love most about you?

My family loves everything about me! One thing I know for sure is that I have the best caretakers in the world. The love, care and expertise of Fox River Animal Hospital has helped me through cancer and other obstacles, so I could get to be with my momma and daddy for almost 16 years now.

Thank you everybody,
Love,
Bailey Gabriel

Tessa - November 2009

Tessa is a 6 year old Shih Tzu who is just as cute and sweet as she can possibly be.  We are always so happy to see her fuzzy little face come through the door!  We asked Tessa's family the following questions:

What is her favorite pastime?

Tessa loves to be around people and warms up to others and turns on her charm!

What does she do that is really cute or funny?

When Tessa is happy, she chases her tail. She also brings us a toy when we walk in the door. When she gets excited she has an energy burst and runs in circles - It is really funny!

What do you love most about her?

We love her sweet and loving personality and we love to cuddle her!

Muse - October 2009

Muse is a 2 year old Domestic Long Hair kitty who was adopted last year by Mojo and his mom and dad.

Muse had the following story to share:

My most favorite pastime is viewing the world from one of my many perches located within my kingdom.  I move throughout the day to watch the birds and squirrels.  My pet dog is so much fun to watch from this altitude.  He looks smarter from here.

I know my people love it when I chirp when they open the sardine can. I have them so easily trained!!  And they love my manners. I always wait for them to start eating before I dig in. They have no idea I use them as my food safety testers... I also make cute sounds when I see squirrels and birds from my many perches. They think I want to play- so cute- little do they know I am dreaming of carnage.

My people love me for my beauty, elegance, keen sense of wit and ability to have compassion for the less than stellar beast who was in the kingdom when I arrived. He's a big golden retriever  named MoJo and I will occasionally lick his snout (can't stand dirt) and he looks at me like I'm annoying him!
Little does he know....  At least I don't have to have my glands expressed every 6 weeks!  Ah the things I must endure!

Oops have to scamper now. I hear the sardine tin being opened!!

Presley - September 2009

Presley is a Labrador/German Shepherd mix who will celebrate his 13th birthday this Christmas.  He is a favorite patient of ours with his fun, outgoing personality and expressive face he is just so handsome!  We asked Presley the following questions:

What is your favorite pastime
1. Going for rides in Daddy's truck (especially to the bank and Dairy Queen-the nice people there give me treats!)
2. I like to help mom and dad make breakfast, lunch and dinner. They call me their little helper because anything that falls on the floor I will clean up for them :)
3. I sleep when mom watches her soap operas, but I wake up to watch the puppy commercials. Mom always tells me when my shows are on.
4. I like to play with my neighbor, Steven. He tries to keep up with me, but I'm a little faster. (Steven tells me I cheat!!) But I give him a big A+ for trying. Steven comes over and plays with me when mom and dad have to go away for the day and my favorite part is Steven always has treats.

What do you do that is really cute or funny?

1. I am a 72 pound dog, but in my mind I am a Toy Poodle. I love to sit on mom's lap or on her feet. (Mom is very short and small!)
2.When the phone rings, mom and dad tell me to answer  - - so I howl until the phone is answered.
3. I like to dance when mom, dad and friends dance. My favorite singer is Elvis.
4. Everything- - at my age, mom and dad are always saying I am precious  and their little pride and joy and I can always put a smile on their faces.

What does your family love most about you?

1. Presley Aaron is our pride and joy. He is a (confused) mixed breed and a big dog with a temperment of a puppy. But we feel he has a heart bigger than his body.
2. Presley is pure entertainment and a protector (we will never tell that when it storms he is the first one under the blankets).
3. Presley's bright, happy eyes, ears and tail are the first thing we see in the morning and the last thing we see when we go to bed. When we have had a bad day at work as soon as we get home and see him - - the day did not seem that bad.

Our employees have been so busy having babies that we've had to put our Pet of the Month program on hold.  Look for a new pet of the month coming in September!!!

Zach- March 2009

Zach is a Standard Poodle who is almost 3 years old. Zach definitely knows that he's popular every place he goes, and is a favorite among the staff at FRAH.

What is your favorite pastime?

My favorite pastime is visiting people at the hospital and my mommy kissing me! (I am a Therapy Dog at Appleton Medical Center).

What do you do that is really cute or funny?

Mom and dad think I'm really cute when at about 4:00 am I nudge mom with my long nose asking her to move over so that I can sleep beside her, hogging her pillow and wanting my early morning hugs.

What does your family love most about you?

My family loves the fact that I love to be loved and I am a snuggler. Love is a big word in our house!

February 2009 - Samantha

What is your favorite past time?

I love sleeping by the registers; I love the heat in winter and the coolness in summer

What do you do that is really cute or funny?

I always wake my owner up each and every morning in order that I get fed and and I get my insulin shot. This is the highlight of my day.

What does your family love most about you?

Since finding Samantha as a stray 11 years ago, she has been one of the sweetest cats I've known. Quiet and dainty, as she enters her latter years, I will miss her greatly as she has neither a mischievous or mean bone in her body.

November 2008 - Onyx

We had recently seen Onyx this past week for what initially was a lack of appetite and his normal enthusiasm. After spending a night with us, Dr. Shepherd spotted something on one of the xrays that was in Onyx's intestine. We performed surgery on Onyx to remove the obstruction (which was a cat toy) and the next day we saw a 100% improvement in his attitude. The whole staff here at Fox River was very happy that we could assist in Onyx's recovery. Onyx wrote the following...

Onyx is a 3 year old Labrador Retriever that is full of energy and curiosity. I sometimes get into mischief by eating things that I shouldn't and that is how I became November Pet of the Month.

I am not only a wonderful family dog, but I am also a very good duck hunter. I enjoy hunting with my daddy on brisk early mornings. I love taking longs walks and car rides letting my long ears flop in the wind.

When I get excited I like to run around the house to wear off some energy, usually carrying one of my babies (stuffed animals).
When I get bored I play catch by myself. I lay on my back with all four legs in the air and drop a tennis ball into my mouth. I do this over and over and over again.

My owners think its funny when I try to do the long jump. I run as fast as I can and jump off the end of the dock into the lake to see how far I can jump. Each time I try I get more and more distance. If they had Doggy Olympics I might come close to the gold metal!

My family loves me most because I am always happy to greet them at the door. I have a very happy tail (which sometimes hurts them) but only means that I love them so much.
I not only love to give kisses but I also like to snuggle. I am an 80 lb. teddy bear!

Bagel
October 2008

Our pet of the month for October is Bagel, a 15 year old Cocker Spaniel. This little lady has been coming to Fox River Animal Hospital for quite a while, and it is always a joy to see her. We are very happy to have Bagel as our pet of the month, and she took time out of her busy schedule to share her story...

Dear Fox River Animal Hospital,

This is a picture of my Mom and me taken at City Park of Appleton. It was taken some time ago when I was much younger. I am now over 15 years old! I still take my daily walk with my best friend, of almost 3 years, Dalai the Weiner Dog. Dalai helps my Mom take care of me and she has become my eyes and ears now for I have lost most of both of these senses.
My mom found me by accident one day when I was 6 months old. My previous owners moved out of our apartment and left me chained to a tree in the back yard to die. My new Mom took me home a day after she found me and I have been with her ever since then. As it turns out, she needed me, at that time, just as much as I needed her. It was fate.

About 5 years later, we came across Chaska. She was a beautiful Husky and wolf mix. She was locked in a dark garage with no food or water. She could hardly walk. My Mom somehow convinced the owner to give her to us. We gave her a loving home. It was fate again. She was with us for almost 9 years and is now in heaven. She was a great friend to me and I miss her very much. I still stare off in to her yard and think about her.

Over the years I have done some crazy things to make my family laugh! The first of my all time favorites is the time I climbed the tree to catch a squirrel! I was up very high and I looked down at my Mom and she laughed, of course, because she was trying to figure out how to get me out of the tree! Another is the time I jumped out of the car window at JD's Drive Thru. I have a French fry fetish and I just couldn’t take that fabulous smell! Last is the time I was nose to nose, on the Dale Nature Trail, with a very large horse and I had no intentions of backing up! I was protecting my Mom and Chaska. I was very glad that horse had a sense of humor!

I have lived a long, wonderful life! I have a mother that loves me so much, grandparents that take good care of me, great friends and even some boyfriends along the way! I used to walk on a nature trail every day for many years with my Mom and I would go with her every chance that I got. I am content now to just stay around the house and take care of things there. I have so many fond memories…way too many to list!

My Mom, Dalai, Chaska (in loving memory), and I are so very thankful for Fox RiverAnimalHospital and their fabulous staff. They have been with us all of the way… through the good times and rough times. Keep going because we need you!

Tipper
September 2008

Tipper is a frequent visitor to our clinic. About a couple times a year, Tipper gets an intranasal vaccine to help her with upper respiratory symptoms she gets. She's always patient with us, and we love to see her!

We asked Tipper and her owners to answer a few questions...

What is Tipper's Favorite pastime?

I like to sit on the window sill in the front room and watch the birds at the feeder, as well as the squirrels and rabbits that come under the evergreen tree where Dad puts stuff out for them.

What does Tipper do that is really cute or funny?

Almost every night at about 7:00 PM, I will jump up and race from the front of the house to the back about two or three times. Once in a while I will use the back of the love seat on my way.

What do you love most about Tipper?

Mom and Dad can go away for a few hours, or for the day, and I will greet them at the door as soon as I hear it open.

Chaser, Muffin and Rampy

August 2008
Chaser, Muffin and Rampy always bring a smile to the staff's faces. Chaser is a 7 1/2 year old Miniature Schnauzer who finds his fair share of mischief while being very, very cute. One of his housemates, Muffin,  is a little older than Chaser. We don't hold it against her that she doesn't like to visit us here at Fox River. And the newest addition to the gang, Rampy, is a 1 year old Maine Coon who got her name where her mom found her, in a parking ramp!

We asked Chaser, Muffin and Rampy to answer a few questions.

What's your favorite pastime?

Chaser-My favorite past time (oops! I'm still working on spelling!) is playing with my human! A close second is playing with my sisters Rampy and Muffin.

Muffin- I have 2 favorites. The first is drinking free flowing water from the bathroom sink, and the second is playing with and taking care of Chaser.

Rampy-I like to play!!! My human has fuzzy purple dice she lets me chase around the house, but the most fun I have is hiding somewhere and ambushing Muffin when she walks by! (Sometimes she doesn't have much of a sense of humor!) Chaser is fun to play with also. We play tag a LOT!!

What do you do that is really cute or funny?

Chaser- I keep forgetting that the dining room floor is laminate. When Rampy and I play tag, I run down the stairs at top speed-When I hit the dining room, I lose my footing and go skidding/sliding across the floor. My human laughs, tells me I'm goofy and gives me a treat! She always makes sure I'm not hurt first!!!

Muffin- I am neither cute, nor a comedian. My human calls me a Prima Donna which I am sure means I am sleek and classy. She does laugh (rudely!), however, after I eat fresh catnip, I tend to fall over and roll around the floor! I also like to hide in paper bags!

Rampy-Well, I'm not trying to be funny, I'm just trying to learn. There is this huge water bowl in the bathroom - If I could just get into it! My human will push a little silver bar and the bowl makes a loud and really SCARY NOISE! My human thinks it's funny when I run and hide under the bed. I can't believe the noise doesn't scare her too!

What does your family love most about you?

Chaser- My dashing good looks, my loyalty, my brains, my behavior-well, everything really!

Muffin- Everything. I mean really- what's not to love? I am after all, perfect! (ok, except when I have to go to the vet!)

Rampy- I'm always happy and cheerful! I talk to my human a lot-she likes it, though most times I'm quite sure she has no idea what I'm saying!! I'm also very soft and silky. We are still getting to know each other, I'm young and a relatively new addition to the family.

Muffin
July 2008

Muffin is the biggest, tallest, sweetest dog we know!  He's an almost 8 year old Labrador mix with a huge smile.  For such a big dog, we have noticed that Muffin is a little bit wimpy - he is afraid of tiny dogs!

We asked Muffin's family the following questions (we would have asked Muffin, but he was too shy:)...

What is Muffin's Favorite pastime?

Muffin enjoys sleeping- a lot. However, when he’s not taking a snooze, he likes playing outside, and playing with his babies (stuffed animals).

What does Muffin do that is really cute or funny?

Sometimes Muffin tries to “talk”.

What do you love most about Muffin?

We love his kind and gentle spirit.

Dexter, Cody and Spirit
June 2008

These sweet little Pomeranians are a mother(Spirit on right), father(Dexter on left) and son(Cody in the middle) trio who just crack us up with their big bubbly personalities.  They sort of resemble tumbleweeds on leashes when they come in the door.  We love seeing these little guys even though they report coming to see us as one of their least favorite pastimes, we won't hold that against them!

Their favorite pastime is taking a ride up north so they can snoop in the yard and lay in the grass.

Every thing they do is cute, especially when the paw us so we pet them.  Spirit tips over on her back when we walk by so we rub her belly.

What we love the best is when they curl up next to  us at night to go to sleep.

You didn't ask what they like the least, sorry but it is going to the vet:)

Spats
May 2008
Spats is a 9 year old domestic shorthair kitty who is what we refer to as a former fatty.  Not long ago he weighed over 30# but he is now down to a svelt weight of just over 12#.  This is all thanks to his dedicated family who have worked so hard to get him down to a healthier weight.  Spats is a sweet boy, a very good patient, and quite handsome!

We asked Spats the following questions:

What is your favorite pastime?
1. Playing with my little sisters, Millie and Nikki (also cats)
2. Laying on mommy or daddy's arm when they are reading
3. Basking in the sun when it comes in the windows.
4. Playing with anyone who comes over to our house.

What do you do that is really cute or funny?
1. I lay on mommy or daddy's arm when they read
2. I roll over on my back and look sad when mommy leaves for work in the morning.  Once she almost stayed home:)
3. I curl up for naps with my sister Millie - she's my best buddy

What does your family love most about you?
1. My laid back personality
2. That I like to curl up with them when they go to sleep at night or if they aren't feeling well
3. I'm VERY well behaved

Kitty T. Pooh
April 2008
Kitty T. Pooh is a 9 year old kitty girl who is a frequent guest of our cat boarding facilty.  We are always glad when she is able to spend several days with us since she spends the first 24 hours of each stay trying to destroy us.  Following that initiation period, those of us who have survived are lucky to have the chance to have Kitty the Pooh purr and rub her head all over us, she even seems to enjoy it!
We asked Kitty the Pooh the Following Questions:

What is your favorite pastime?

After a busy cat day spent sleeping, I like to sleep some more.  I also enjoy watching cat TV (staring out the window at the street to see all the animals outside) and knocking pens and pencils off the desk with my paw.

What do you do that is really cute or funny?
I let my servants (my family) rub my ears.  I pretend to enjoy it, but I'm actually just letting them have some fun, I feel sorry for them because they don't have the great life I have.

What does you family love most about you?
That despite all I've accomplished, including this award, I've stayed the same modest and unassuming cat I was when I allowed my servants to take me home with them.

March 2008
Cat of the Month
Derby
  Dog of the Month
Skippy

Derby is  a cute  "little" domestic shorthair kitty who is just shy of 11 years old.  Derby is kind of a whopper, but he is working on weight loss.  We are always happy to see Derby and his family!   Skippy is a 12 year old Cocker Spaniel who is a frequent visitor of our boarding kennels.  He is a very well-behaved houseguest at all times!  His little face is so cute that he does sometimes distract us from getting out work done when he's here.  We feel compelled to sit around and scratch him!
We asked Derby the Following Questions:

What is your favorite pastime?

Derby says hi sfavorite pastime is sleeping in the sun, but he also likes to chase paper balls and play with his catnip toys.  He also likes to beg for treats.

What do you do that is really cute or funny?
Derby thought his cutest thing is when he climbs under the covers on the bed and just peeks his head out.  Another cute thing he does is "flips" he does a shoulder somersault so he can play while laying on his back.

What does you family love most about you?
Derby said he knows we love how sociable he is and how well he communicates with us-especially when he wants treats.  He knows we also love it when he's a lap kitty.

We asked Skippy the Following Questions:

What is your favorite pastime?

Curling up with my family and sleeping.

What do you do that is really cute or funny?
Making a little circle to gain momentum to jump up on the bed.

What does you family love most about you?
My cute face and my love of cuddling with my family.

Tony
February 2008

Our pet of the month for February is Tony. Tony, a 15 year old orange and white shorthaired kitty, has been coming to Fox River Animal Hospital ever since he was a kitten. Tony was diagnosed with diabetes and we see his parents often when they need a refill of his insulin. Tony has been receiving insulin therapy since 2004 and is one of the staff’s favorite pets to see.  We asked Tony the following questions...

What is your favorite pastime?
I just love sitting in the sun by the patio door.  My family thinks I'm sleeping, but I'm really guarding the house from any intruders!

What do you do that is really cute or funny?
I like to head butt people.  My family is used to it, but every now and then I can surprise an unsuspecting visitor.  That's really fun!!

What does you family love most about you?
My family loves that I talk a lot (except when they are sleeping).  I have an extensive vocabulary, so I'm always teaching them new words, but it does take a lot of patience to teach "Catonese" to humans.
